We are presenting the website of the city of Ljubljana, candidate for the title European Capital of Culture 2025.
The European Capital of Culture (ECC) is the most important initiative of the European Union in the field of culture, each year giving select European cities the opportunity to present their cultural heritage and all they have to offer in the area of culture to the wider European audience.
It is not just a local but also a distinctly national project which with culture and through culture responds to the future challenges in different areas of life ¬– from tourism, education, health, social cohesion, cultural and creative industries to environmental protection and so on.
The key goals of the European Capital of Culture programme are:
- highlighting the richness and diversity of European cultures and common cultural heritage
- promoting intercultural dialogue
- increasing mutual understanding between European citizens
Together towards the title European Capital of Culture 2025
In the City of Ljubljana we see the candidacy for the title European Capital of Culture 2025 as an opportunity to achieve strategic development goals of the city and the region. And so, with the support of 25 municipalities of the Ljubljana Urban Region we are embarking on the path towards the title European Capital of Culture 2025.
