Mayor Zoran Janković has visited the cities of Istanbul and Ankara between 2 and 4 February 2015, where Mayor Zoran Janković and the Mayor of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality have signed the Sister City Protocol between the City of Ljubljana and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

On Monday, 2 February 2015, Mayor Zoran Janković, met with Dr Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Istanbul. They debated on the collaboration between the cities, focusing on good practices and enforcing the collaboration between the cities in the field of culture. Mayor Zoran Janković presented TO the host the European Green Capital 2016 project and the ZERO Waste programme, which included Ljubljana as the first European capital.

The next day, Mayor met with the Mayor of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Mr Melih Gökcek, and signed the Sister City Protocol between the City of Ljubljana and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
The Protocol focuses on promoting better understanding and amity between the residents of the two cities. Friendly exchanges between the two cities will be conductive to the promotion of their prosperity and the constant development of good relationship.
