On Wednesday, 31 May 2017, Mayor Zoran Janković and his team visited the company Visionect, specialised in developing wireless energy saving boards with electronic paper screens and providing services especially in the area of traffic signs and notifications.

Ljubljana, the first city to digitalise its public services by using electronic paper, remains true to its commitment to offer innovative services sustainable technology enables. And so the city is evolving into the greenest and smartest among global metropolises.

In Ljubljana we have recognised the need for the smart city approach, improving the management of urban flows while focusing on sustainability and making big steps towards increasing the quality of life of its citizens by using green technologies. Last year the city held the title European Green Capital 2016 due to its commitment to finding solutions to environmental challenges of life in the urban area.

The journey to one of the greenest and smartest global metropolises continues this year, as well. Ljubljana has developed into a centre for most advanced smart city solutions making it possible to work with leading information technology companies in the world elite. In support of such co-operation the Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković and his team visited Visionect, a member of the Technology Park Ljubljana and one of the city partners in the European Green Capital project.

Ljubljana is the first city to digitalise its public transport using the electronic paper technology, transforming passenger information into a better public service. The city turned to the company Visionect, the leader in integrating energy efficient digital boards into environments where this previously seemed impossible, and set up state-of-the-art screens displaying information for passengers at bus stops in the centre of the city. E-paper screens show bus timetables, arrival information and route changes. Their energy consumption is extremely low, they have minimal impact on the environment without light pollution and they can operate using alternative energy sources without any problem.

London, Orland, Pittsburgh, Boston and Singapore are following Ljubljana displaying information with energy saving e-ink.

Mayor Zoran Janković congratulated all employees of Visionect for their successes in the implementation of eco-friendly technologies improving the urban life.
