Walk Along the Barbed Wire
To celebrate the Ljubljana City Holiday, 9 May, the traditional and now already 59th edition of the "Walk Along the Barbed Wire" will be organised. It will get underway on Thursday, 7 May 2015 with a walk by children, while the event will culminate with the walk of hiking lovers and the 'trio race'.
The Walk Along the Barbed Wire takes place on more than 34km-long route around Ljubljana, where there stood a barbed wire of Italian and German aggressors during the Second World War.
In addition to the commemoration of the liberation of Ljubljana (9 May 1945), the main goal of the event is to promote movement and a healthy way of life.
The walk is traditionally opened by children from Ljubljana kindergartens who will start their hike on 7 May 2015. A day after they will be followed by pupils from Ljubljana primary and secondary schools, while on Saturday 9 May 2015 the path will be 'occupied' by the hiking lovers and the 'trio' race competitors.
The 'trios' will compete in a 12.5 and 29 km long race. The 'trio' race is a unique running competition with three runners running side by side and the running time is of the last one to cross the line. The organisers thus encourage mutual help and solidarity among the runners, since the running time is marked when the weakest link of the trio arrives at the finish. Thus members of a team have to help, support and motivate each other in order to clock the fastest time possible.
