When man's best friend helps at saving lives

16th International Training Event of Rescue Dog Handlers “Ljubljana 2014” took place from 23 to 25 May 2014 in the wider area of the Slovenian capital city.

The training was organised by Protection, Rescue and Civil Defence Department of the City of Ljubljana and Slovenian Rescue Dog Handlers' Association.

Its purpose was to test the ability of rescue dog handlers and the skills of their four-legged friends during the search and rescue of missing persons under collapsed buildings in the natural environment. The event was also organised to check the employment and application of foreign rescue assistance.
More than 200 participants from Slovenia and abroad partook in this year's event. It saw 11 teams of rescue dog handlers from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Serbia and Slovenia, i.e. 39 altogether. The training was set as to mirror the real environment situation where teams of rescue dog handlers actually conduct their work.
Slovenian rescue dogs and their handlers are well-known on the international scale since they regularly offer their assistance in severe natural disasters.
