In the opinion of the evaluation committee the winning solution is most comprehensive with regard to all criteria. They unanimously awarded the first prize to the proposal because of the consistently executed design which is taking into account the particularities of the operation of a city cinema in the special conditions of the location and the clear message of the pavilion which is introducing a typologically recognisable accent in the space and by doing so it is hierarchically organising the otherwise diverse city ground floor.

The city cinema miniplex plan

The box office results at the Kinodvor cinema show that Ljubljana needs a new, bigger and more modern film venue where the city cinema can unveil, enrich and upgrade all of its programmes which in many aspects exceed cinematographic activities. We have decided to set up the city cinema miniplex with five auditoriums in the Ajdovščina underpass which is going to significantly contribute to the revival of this area.

The miniplex is going to provide spatial and other conditions in which the concept of a city cinema as a creative cultural centre for all generations can come to life, with an emphasis on attracting a new and especially young audience. With the new miniplex the Kinodvor city cinema will be able to affirm its position as the main city cinema with high-quality and diverse films and a programme for children and the youth. It is going to become the film centre with film education and educational programmes for all generations and a lively festival and social meeting place.
