The City of Ljubljana published a call for the selection of a private partner for the construction of the Rog Centre and garages.

The call shall close on 7 March 2012.

With the public call, the City of Ljubljana is searching for a private investor for the reconstruction and construction of the Rog Centre on 9,000 m² of premises, three-level garages with 578 parking spaces and a hotel/flats extending over 5,380 m². The estimated cost of the investment is EUR 39,000,000.00.

In 2008, the MX_SI architectural studio from Barcelona won the open architectural and urban planning competition to design the Rog factory site. The City of Ljubljana will implement the project of renovating the entire former Rog factory site according to the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The project includes the renovation of the protected former Rog factory building, which, together with the new extension for a large exhibition hall, will be converted into the Rog Centre, as well as the construction of flats or a hotel and garages. It is a comprehensive urban planning and architectural renovation of the broader area of the former factory site.

The Rog Centre will be the centre of creativity in the fields of visual arts, architecture, design and creative industries. It will fulfil important infrastructural needs for a large exhibition venue, production space and studios, while its programme will be based on the connection of cultural creativity, business, science and education. The City of Ljubljana’s goal is for Rog Centre to establish itself as a dynamical international creative and artistic hub and become one of the milestones in Ljubljana developing into a creative city. Two Central European projects Second Chance and Creative Cities are currently in preparation. Their results and activities will be incorporated into the design of the new Centre Rog.

The renovation of the former Rog factory building will complement the protected cultural heritage with contemporary architectural solutions. Part of the renovation includes also the arrangement of business premises (shops, bars, etc.) on the ground floor of the former Rog factory building on the side of the Petkovškovo embankment and the construction of underground garages. The project also includes the possibility of constructing a hotel or flats in accordance with the urban design of the area.
